Refrigerate Cupcakes Before Frosting. The cream cheese frosting is probably my favorite part; I was inspired by a few different banana cupcake recipes before settling on this one.

Use your stand mixer or hand mixer to beat butter for 60 seconds. But take them out a couple of hours before you sever them so the cupcakes come back up to room temperature. Both the cupcakes and the frosting can be made up to two days ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator, tightly covered, until ready for assembly.

I made them the night before the event and they were still perfect.


It's just wonderfully decadent on a banana cupcake. It’s flavored with a buttery, bittersweet caramel that brings out the earthiness of the sweet potato and the warm notes of the spices in the cupcakes. Otherwise, i store my cupcakes in a cool, dry place in an airtight container for up to 3 days once they are frosted.

Or the cupcakes can be frozen for up to 3 months. Some people have commented that they like to refrigerate the frosting for a while before piping it onto their cakes and cupcakes. The recipe made more frosting than needed, so i made meringues with the leftovers, and those are awesome too.

If you don’t use frosting, you can even cover the cupcakes with a paper towel, to keep them extra fluffy and moist. It can be left at room temperature for up to three days. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.

The frosting did great in the broiler (no torch) for just over a minute.


Slowly pour in heavy cream and vanilla, beat until well combined and fluffy, then refrigerate until you’re ready to use! Let cupcakes set at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving. Cover and refrigerate each overnight.

The cupcakes store best in an airtight container for up to three days, but after assembly, we recommend you store these cupcakes in the refrigerator because the frosting contains dairy.


Leftover cupcakes will keep well at room temperature, in a sealed container. Frost the cupcakes the next day. Buttercream frosting is known for being creamy and delicious, but there is some confusion about how to store it.
